Welcome to St Mary Bourne Bowling Club

We hope that you find these web pages both informative and useful to both existing members, guests, and to anyone who may be interested in joining us.

The geographical position of the club is second to none and offers the most beautiful backdrop of the rolling countryside which surrounds the greens. Peace and tranquillity in a perfect setting.

St. Mary Bourne Bowling Club is a long established club who play competitive bowls in the Basingstoke and District League, the Whitchurch League and the Stan Hardman League played on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays respectively. Friendly games with other bowling clubs are played on Saturdays and Sundays. On Tuesday evenings we hold a fun Spoon Drive competition where teams and positions are drawn before each match and individual scores taken and totalised throughout the season to determine the top four positions to receive prizes. There are also several special events throughout the season, which run from early April to early September.

We have a playing membership of about 60, and a social membership of about 20, which has remained relatively constant over a number of years. We have a reputation for being a club of above average playing strength and of a competitive nature, but will always try to accommodate bowlers of all standards from beginner to county players.

We hold several social occasions during the season and during the closed winter period to bring members together and at the same time to make some profit to assist in the running of the club. These are held in our clubhouse which has excellent facilities including large changing rooms, a lounge area with a well stocked bar and a well-equipped kitchen.

We always hold an ‘Open Day’ at the beginning of our season, when visitors and potential new members can come along and try their hand at bowling and meet members of the club. The date for this years’ open day (2019) is Saturday13th. April – 10.00am – 4.00pm.

All of our members are welcoming to newcomers. Lawn bowls does perhaps have a reputation for being a sport aimed at the retired generation, but don’t be fooled, at any age you’ll quickly be caught up in the necessary skill and competitive nature of the game. There will always be experienced players at hand to offer advice and guidance to new members.
